I live in Tempe, and I'm trying to grow an avocado from seed (see picture). In the last few days I've become concerned that the leaves have started to turn yellow. What can I do to help it?

It looks like you might be keeping the soil too wet. I know that when you germinate an avocado from seed you do so in water, but once you get it in the soil you need to keep the soil drier. Try slowly reducing the frequency of watering. When you do water, thoroughly soak the soil so that water runs out the bottom of the pot, but do so less frequently. It also might need more sun, but once again try small changes. You don't want to throw it in full sun from full shade all in one day. Going from dark shade to light shade might be enough for the moment. Also, if you are planning on keeping it outside in that pot, I recommend full shade until summer is over.

By the way. I noticed your image attachment isn't showing inline. I think this is because your file extension is uppercase JPG instead of jpg.

You mentioned on your avocado page, "I have found that Haas avocado trees cannot take the summer heat here no matter how much shade they get while other varieties fare better." I was growing it inside for awhile. Could moving it outside have resulted in the yellowing? Should I take it back inside?

Heat won't turn it yellow. It will make the leaves burn.
