...I did protect it, but I'm thinking I didn't have to. It does seem
pretty tough, but I was paranoid this winter and probably over
protected some stuff. I believe protecting any small plant the first couple years can only help it get stronger for the days when it will be large
enough to handle the cold on its own....though this one was already a good 5 X 6 feet and quite thick with branches....
just my personal opinion of course....
The only thing about it was, the first year's fruits (last years) were a little bit turpentiny (if that is even what I was tasting) and I'm hoping a more mature plants may straighten that out - if not, I think the next step is an inline water filter...so we'll see....
