I have a customer that has two citrus trees (one orange and one lemon) on the side of their house. Their previous landscaper trimmed them and shortly after ALL the leaves fell off of them. It's totally bizarre! There are new tender leaves beginning to grow back. What could have caused this?

The trees are close to where they backwash their salt water pool but they have been backwashing there for a number of years with no problems... any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that he trimmed them too much when it was really hot and exposed leaves to full sun that had been shaded by the other leaves that were removed. Since those leaves were not used to full sun they sunburned rapidly and dropped. Probably some of the bark ended up sunburning too. Its best to avoid trimming citrus in the middle of summer.
