Turns out I spoke too soon on the successful pollination. The nursery description was self fruitful, so that must mean that two flowers must be open at the same time and be pollinated with each other. I guess I will find out next year, or maybe get a few more lucky flowers...

Also, agreeing with pt on the taste.

White types- nasty/tasteless

Red types- sweet small

Purple types- sweet

Yellow thorned types- sweetest

It all depends on what variety you grow. One good trade off with the white varieties is that they are generally larger, but for me it's not worth it.

I have tried the white ones and they didn't have any taste.

I don't recall. Are the white ones the only self pollinating?

No, most of the varieties you find are self pollinating because they are largely favored regardless of color.

So it's been a while since an update of my dragon fruits. Since the last plant bloomed it suffered a large knock back from a harsh winter and has just recently recovered to its former glory, however it has not flowered since. The last flowers it did make that were posted here were sadly not pollinated.

One of my other potted dragon fruits recently flowered, but it only produced one flower. So in desperation on the night of the flower opening I stole a neighbors Apple cactus flower (night blooming cereus) and used its pollen to try to pollinate my dragon fruit. Fingers crossed.

Here are my dragonfruit flowers from May. No successful pollination. I currently have several flower buds on growing tips right now. I also have another vine, so that I have one pink and one red. I am hoping that I will get both to flower simultaneously so that I can cross-pollinate and increase my chance for fruit set.

We need a pollen drive going during flowering season so we can all get fruit 😂.
