Hallo All :

Wondering if anyone is doing well with figs here ?

I used to have them in Palm Springs - much better draining soil than here

looking forward to hearing your experiences

cheers in advance:

Figs do great here. The best variety for here is Black Mission.

I had heard some people had issues with Black Mission figs, that the ends would open and bugs (a beetle) would get into. Have any of you seen this?

I've got two fig cuttings I got from a guy in California, green skin fig, with a strawberry red inside. They are VERY sweet and flavorful, let's just see if I can get them to mature.

I have a Black Mission fig tree. It fruited a lot the year after I planted it, but now it fruits very little but is growing like crazy. Some trees do that, so no big deal. There is someone in my neighborhood with a horse property that has a black mission and the thing is a 25 foot plus tall tree, with a massive trunk. It must be 40 years old. It has delicious figs all over it certain times of the year.

I haven't had any troubles with bugs.

I remember Doug Jones mentioning a beetle that gets in the ends of black figs and the beetles carry some kind of virus that kills the fig. Or at least that's what he's experienced, and a few others in the area had that issue too. Perhaps its just in his area?

All I know is the fig's I'm sprouting now are GOOD! Smile I can't wait to get them big enough to get in the ground!
