Is it possible for persimmon tree to grow fruit in Phoenxi? From what I read, it does not produce well in desert heat. However, Lowes and other local nurseries carray it. is there anyone having experience with growing persimmon?

My fuyu has been in the ground for 3 years and started producing last year. It's planted on the west side of the house and gets some afternoon shade. The majority of time, it's in full sun.

In order to minimize fruit drop in late summer, you need to heavily water the plant as any sort of water stress will cause it to drop. I have the plant on a bubbler and watered for 35 minutes weekly last year, but lost all ten fruit by the end of August. This year I plan on watering biweekly and see if that helps.

Your tree looks great. I'm not an expert on persimmons but I would think, like you said, that once a week would not be enough in summer. Let us know how it goes.

I planted an Izu a couple of months or so ago. I bought an Izu because they don't get as big as some of the others and this made it so that I could plant it on the North side of an Ironwood tree for sun protection.
Thanks for posting the pictures and info. There isn't much out there about growing persimmons here so your post was most appreciated.
Your tree looks really good and healthy.
