I was at Home Depot at Germann and Gilbert Rd and saw some really nice fruit trees. Lemon Guava, Pineapple Guava, Cherimoya, Loquat, Fig, Avacado, Sapote, Manila Mango and Pomegrante. What would be a good plant to plant here which could take our cold. I can protect some plants but do not want to protect everything all the time. What would you suggest I plant and which side of the house. I have a north facing house with space on either sides. |

Thanks for the advice, I am sold on few plants I will try here in the desert. I know that Pomegranate do well. Here is the final list of plants that I plan to plant.
Cold Hardy:
1. Utah Sweet Pomegranate
2. Wonderful Pomegranate
3. Big Jim Loquat
4. Golden Nugget Loquat
5. Red Flame Grape
6. Thompson Seedless Grape
7. Combo tree (3-in-1) Santa Rosa Plum, Babcock Peach and Silver Lode Nectarin
8. Triple Crown Blackberry
9. Pineapple Guava
Protection Plants:
1. Pink Tropical Guava
2. White Tropical Guava
3. Rajapuri Banana
I am passing on the fig but these many are good load to handle. I am planning on keeping the protected plant in pots till spring and hopefully they will take off.
Surprisingly, all these plants were only available at one of the HD and not the other. Good to see some good plant at these big boxes. I think they get it from La Vern in CA. Will post pictures of how they do over the winter. _________________ Growing Oranges, Grapefruit, Lime, Lemon, Pomegranate, Curry Leaves, Guava, Banana, Papaya, Blackberries, Grapes, Peach, Nectarine, Apple, Plum, Mulberry, Mango and Gojiberry. |
