Some results of Micro Climate testing around my House this winter.

Planted some tomatoes as test subjects on the southwest corner of my house. Placed a lightweight frost cloth in December and added a sheet during the 5 day freeze we got in January. The plants were small but have been picking a few tomatoes off them during the month of February. This was one of the best location for micro climate heat all winter. Planted some more along the south facing block wall of my property using the same covering as the front. They are still alive but just barely. Another frost sensitive plant on the southeast corner of the house was uncovered it took a beating but is still alive. On the north side of my house 10 feet away from the house I had a container that got up to 3 inch of ICE in it during the 5 day freeze.

Lots of temperature variation around my house!

Now I have a much better idea on where to plant my greenhouse full of tropical’s and apple/peach/apricot fruit trees.

This last freeze I found that when it gets down to 27°F in the yard anything sensitive has to be within about a foot of the house for it to make much of a difference. A very small microclimate indeed. Very Happy
