I planted two vines about 3 weeks ago at the base of a trellis. I am trying to encourage folliage at the bottom of the trellis and am training the vines sideways through the lattice to accomplish this.

To have the vines and leaves grow faster, I was thinking it might help to trim the flowers back to the vine. Would this help? Is there any downside to trimming the flowers back? (I'm not as interested in the flowers as I am vines and leaves this year, but would like them in following years)

I don't think trimming the flowers will have much affect. It's better just to feed it well. I'd recommend putting some slow release fertilizer around its base. If you want to go more organic use the 5-1-1 fish emulsion every week.
