I have been growing pineapple guava trees for about 3 years and I am already getting some fruit. I have both Coolidge and a Nazemetz pineapple guava trees, and they are planted relatively close to one another. Also, when they flowered I hand pollinated both of them with each other. Interestingly, only the Nazemetz bore fruit. The fruit was small and fairly tart but still tasty. See the included photo.

I just planted mine a month or so ago. I'm glad to hear that after 3 years you are getting fruit. I have read that it can take 10 years. Three is so much better!

Do these grow well in Southern California? I would like to plant some exotic fruits and these look beautiful.

Yes, they are actually easier to grow in SC than in the Phoenix area. In fact, all the ones we buy here come from SC.

They both taste good. If I recall correctly the coolidge is a little more sweet while the nazemetz is more tart, but both good. The nazemetz is more oblong in shape and a little bigger. I recommend buying both because they cross pollinate each other.

By the way, that first post was a while ago. I got a lot of fruit off of both of them last year.

The pineapple guavas also do well here in Las Vegas. I am hand pollinating them because of the lack of bees.
