Treeland called me today saying they got in 15G Rupicola X Reclinata hybrids this week. I have been waiting for months for these. I will check them out this weekend. I was told they are grown local which is always nice. Stay tuned for pictures.

I have two Rupicola x Reclinata hybrids in my garden. Got them at Treeland. They are hardy and beautiful palms but I'm not sure of their lineage.

P. Reclinata is a clustering palm and the Treeland Phoenix hybrids have solitary trunks. Also, P. Rupicola is not grown commercially here as far as I can tell so where are the parent P. Rupicola trees? The Treeland hybrids will show leaf burn below 27F which not characteristic of a P. Reclinata which is much more cold tolerant.

I'd like to know more about these hybrids. Their appearance looks more like a cross between a Canary Island date and Pygmy Date and their cold tolerance is similar to a pygmy date. Great palms!

Ask Keith at Treeland where they came from. He said they got them from a small local grower.

Here is a picture of one of my Phoenix Rupicola x Reclinata. This palm was purchased as a 15g from Treeland 3 years ago. The palm has easily tripled in size in that time. A nice feature are the leaves which are soft meaning it won't gore you when you pass by. A good full-sun palm for use near a walkway or pool perhaps. Cold tolerance is similar to a Pygmy date in my experience. The leaves will bronze below 27F perhaps.

Well I picked up (2) 15G ones this weekend. Now the hard part of finding a place to plant them! Your right about the fronds goring you! The Reclinata is nasty! These are much better.
