My neighbors gave us a big bowl of figs. This variety is green even when ripe. They were nice and sweet.

Here are some black mission figs ripe on my tree. This tree is not too big yet so we got about 10 of them. They were yummy. Figs are so easy to grow here.

While I have 4 different fig trees, Kadota, Black Jack, Panache Tiger and Violette De Bourdeaux, I have only tasted one Black Jack that the birds missed. This has been my one and only experience eating a fresh fig.
Since my trees are pretty young, I hope to some day have bowls of figs to share like your neighbors. What a nice harvest.

Do some of you more experienced fig tasters, have favorites? As mangomutt said, the darker ones look like they would be better than the green ones.

The black mission have a richer flavor but a slightly funny after taste. The green ones don't seem to have the aftertaste. They are both good though. The birds don't seem to bother my figs much at all. Maybe they are too busy trying to find a gap in the net on my peach tree.

I am growing Black Mission, Kadota and Brown Turkey here in Las Vegas. The trees have been in the ground for 10 years and produce an abundance of fruit. After slicing them into 1/4 inch pieces, they easily dry in the house, providing an almost year-round supply of fruit.
