Hi was wondering which variety of mango has grown the fastest in your heat / which grafted mango seems to thrive the most other than your Manila seedling.

Can u tell me what kind of soil you are growing these in
Is is sand all the way down or sand first 2-3 feet then clay

What are you feeding them?

I ask all this because i recently (yesterday purchased a 4-5ft valencia pride) and have 2 more holes to add 2 more mangoes. i recently read you liked the Alphonso growth .
Details would help. Thanks!

Just not crazy about the seedling Manila but maybe i should go ahead and get one Confused

Hi Mr. Maniac - at your service!

well, many young mango trees but the fastest so far
seem to be Valencia Pride and Alphonso - actually faster
than the manila.... The VP maybe 2 1/2 per year - the same
with the Alphonso, but the Alphonso is more vigorous on
its side growth. A real emerging bush/tree. So far teh VP
mango is the taste winner, but hopefully with age, Alphie
will come around...

and my soil is sand, all sand, but I did add a few shovelfulls of compost
when I planted them and mulch them all on top - 2-3 inches.

And this last year I started fertilizing with whatever I had in the garage,
diluted of course, every couple weeks. From Worm castings tea, fish emulsion tea, and some other organic stuff to Miracle Gro. To me this
last year had the best growth so I'm thinking that kind of routine is beneficial...

hope that helps.....mdog
