|
|
So my peach tree has been in the ground for about three years now. Last year it produced fruit for the first time, which got to be the size of an apricot (the flavor was actually pretty good, though!).
However, I've noticed that it doesn't seem to be producing much of a leaf count. In addition, it's not really growing as a tree anymore.
Help?
Picture!

psimitry - I have a white peach tree - same thing - it produced some small fruit, but the leaf count seems very weak compared to the peach tree I have next to it which is just LOADED with nearly uncontrollabe growth....
Yes, I also wonder why that is - and my two trees are under the same exact conditions.....
Puzzled in Palm Springs.....

What variety is it? If it is a variety that needs more chill time, it might be unhealthy in this climate.

Based on your recommendation, it's an Erli Grande.

Hmmmm. Both good varieties for here. Are you watering them every other day in summer? I water my peaches on a grass schedule so they get very frequent water.

PT, that sounds like way too much watering. I water every 10 days in the spring and every 5 in the summer, but I'm using basin irrigation.

I water every day....in the morning....and the thing is the peach tree that is 8 feet from this one is flourishing like there's no tomorrow! I must say on looking at mine closer today - the peaches are ripening and perhaps it is waiting to push growth after they are off the tree....I mean the tree seems healthy enough, to me....could always be some root problem which is a bit tougher to find of course....
thanks, PT and everyone...... oh...here's a pic, too......very small peaches I might add.....
