Have a bunch of little fruit on mine but they still haven't gotten any bigger than a pea but the plant is going gangbusters for growth. With every new leaf there’s another small fruit.

I know that this is an older post but I planted a couple of these and they actually sprouted.
Can they take full sun in the summer?

Mine had afternoon shade but I'm going to try them in the full sun this year. If anyone needs seeds I have some.

Mine are planted in full sun but I could rig a shade if I had to. I hope that I don't have to though. It would be nice to find another tough edible plant.

That being said, I have no idea as to what these taste like. Basically, they sounded interesting so I ordered seeds. Now I finally have a new garden enclosure and I am filling it up.

Since you are planting them again, they must be good. I can't wait to try them.

Jamaica is made from boiling the dried out flowers I think. You can get it in Mexican restaurants. Tastes like cherry Koolaide. Red Zinger Celestial seasons tea is made from it I believe.

I have had that Celestial Seasonings Tea before. That should be good.

I also just read where you can use the young leaves and stems. Although, the deal breaker could be that they are said to taste like rhubarb. I have memories of my mom wasting perfectly good strawberries by making strawberry rhubarb pies. Oh well, maybe now that I am older I will actually like the taste or can use them in a manner that compliments the flavor better.

It makes a great tea, I’m going to try to use the leaves and stems in cooking this summer. Last year the Roselle, Moringa, and Jewels of Opar (talinum paniculatum) liked it the hotter it got during the summer. The saving was big $$$ working the garden during the heat last year because my sauna was free, just spend ~45 minutes working in the yards and sweat off 4 pounds! Got to watch out for heat stoke! Shocked

Glad to hear they like the heat. I'm liking the sound of this plant more and more.

You mention that you have a Moringa. I have been thinking about getting one but the spot that I have for it is along a wash. It is a cold spot in my yard. How does yours do in the winter?

Two winters ago it froze to the ground and came back from the roots. This winter it lost everything above the 6 foot level growing now and putting on flowers. It make a nice green bean when picked at the size of a pencil. Was getting a pound a week last summer. They don’t have much flavor will take on the flavor of what they are cooked with. Grows super fast nice summer crop. I planted mine in May two years ago and the hotter it got the faster it grew. The leaves taste bitter to me. Have not tried to cook them yet.
