Arizona's SRP power company is planning to possibly completely destroy any incentive that home owners have to go solar. They are planning to charge solar users a higher grid use cost then regular customers. Estimates are up to an extra $50 a month. This is ridiculous considering there is no difference between the cost of maintaining power lines going to a solar home vs a non solar home. If grid maintenance is also rolled into the kwh rate in addition to the connection fee, then roll it out and charge everyone the same. It's not that complicated.

They are also going to dramatically reduce the electrical sell back rate, which is already at the market rate which is much less than the retail rate. So, anyone producing excess power will now give SRP a bunch of super cheap electricity which they can then sell to their other customers?!

Unfortunately power companies are a monopoly because we can't switch companies when they try to screw us like this. So, we all need to raise hell about this. Discriminating against customers in this way should not be legal. Basic logic says that electrical customers should simply pay the power company for how much electricity we use. It also says any overproduction should be sold back at the market rate.

Republicans should be mad about this because it costs them money. Libertarians should be mad about this because it destroys their ability to be self reliant. Liberals should be mad about this because it destroys their ability to go green. Americans should be mad about this because it destroys our ability to be energy independent from other nations.

They must think we are idiots to try to make us believe that solar customers are getting a free ride. We pay our connection fee and we simply use less power than others without solar panels. Are they going to start charging anyone that uses less power an extra fee now?!

I guess SRP is showing their true colors. There a meetings scheduled for this. Let's go and give them hell.

This does NOT sound good! We have been looking at Solar.. And now the power companies are going to try and stick it to those that use less power? Holy crap, aren't there enough people using power in AZ? Shouldn't they have to pay for the power they use?
