|
|
Here is a photo of my Arizona Rainbow cactus on April 28th. I originally bought this cactus at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden and have had it in a pot for many years. I'm guessing about 8 years. It flowers like this every spring. The reason these cactus are called rainbows is because they have purple and white bands on them. The bands are made by the color of the hairs that they are covered with. These cactus are native to Arizona, but I can't remember ever seeing one out in the desert. Maybe they are more common in the western part of the state or something like that. It seems like it has almost outgrown this pot. Maybe its time for a transplant.

Impressive flowers on that cactus, sure don't look like they belong on that plant.
thanks for sharing

I have quite a lot of Echinocereus, but have never seen that one. Very pretty flowers. I'm tempted, but that looks like one poorly armed Hedgehog, and I'm afraid our local Peccary family might make short work of it.

Yah, the spines are really not too potent on it. It mostly is just furry.
