The Alphonse Mango got ripe for a total of 6 fruit. I was surprised by the intense flavor. They did have a bit of a turpentine taste to it but the mango flavor was very good. The tree is still young maybe the flavor will change with age.

BKaus - yeah, that's the taste. I had about 20 from my tree this year. The trupentiney taste will remain as the tree gets older. The first year
it had fruit I didn't like it. Now, I've grown into really liking them!
I assume it will grow on u like it did me....it's a really unique mango, and yes, nice sweetness! They seem to love the heat, too.
Good Luck!

When The fruit came off the tree the sap that leaked from the fruit has a very strong smell of turpentine. The weird thing is that the first bite has the flavor but then I can't taste it and then the sweetness takes over.
The tree grows very well along with the Carrie.
Are you growing a Carrie mango? The one in my yard should be producing some fruit next year. Wondering what the flavor is like.

Nope - Carrie never made it to my radar, although I hear people either love it or hate it. I think it's got some spice to it or something, which I do like. Well, BK, good luck on getting some next year, and I look forward to your report...

Only one mango this year from my trees they all got their tops frozen on Dec 25, 2014. I wasn't watching the green house and by morning the temp dropped down to the mid 20's. The only tree to not get frozen was my Carrie mango and picked up the one fruit that fell off the tree today
I'll cut it up tonight after work and if I remember I'll post the pictures!

BKAUS - same thing happened to me! The ones that got hit by frost on the upper tiers simply did not flower or fruit - my production was way way down.
Guess we both learned to take the cold a little more seriously - I just had no idea that would happen. I mean I thought I would lose the frozen branches to no mango production but not the whole tree....

Yeah, it's a bummer work all year and 2hrs of cold wipes out most of the fruit. I'm going to take the cold watch much more seriously this season.

Picture of the Carrie Mango. It tasted great but when you have 5 people tasting it you are left wanting more!

Super Bkaus. This year has been the first time I ever had what I would call a crop. I bet I have at least 30 mangoes. My kids are telling me that they are "tired of mangoes". Can you believe that? It took two mild winters in a row for it to happen. Freezes sure do discourage the trees from fruiting even if the damage is minor.

I'll have to break out the heat if a freeze is coming our way!
