I thought this was an interesting angle showing my mango tree, on the left, and my white sapote tree, on the right. It's unusual to see this much fruit in one photo. The white sapotes won't be ripe for another month I think. We are eating the mangoes right now.

That is an awesome display of fruit Smile I love it! My little Suebelle is tiny (just put it in this spring), so I will look at your tree and imagine I am looking just a few years into the future Smile

Thanks. It took mine about 6 years to produce fruit. The small branches and leaves on this tree get killed when we have a hard freeze but the large branches are fine. Since your tree is probably the size of a small branch, make sure you protect it if we are going to have temperatures below 30°F.

That is good advice and definitely what I was planning to do this winter. Thanks!

that's gorgeous! What's your secret with the white sapote? I've had one before that barely grew.

Did you get yours from Homedepot? I might try one again. I've seen a Vernon variety as well. I wonder how well that does here compare to the suebelle.

Thanks. I just keep it lightly mulched and it gets watered by the sprinklers. Here is more info. on how I take care of it.

Yes, it is just a standard HD suebelle.

I'm not sure I've ever had a sapote....what do they taste like?
And what kind of mango you have there, PT? I so recognize that
burning on top from the scorcher days. Guess we will always live in a burn, grow freeze, grow kind of situation.....

White sapote is a lot like having vanilla custard or flan. Its very soft when ripe and messy to eat. I wasn't real fond of them when I first had them, but they have really grown on me.

That is my Keller mango, a seedling that I gave my name to. It's fiberless and sweet and tart. The sunburn on the tops of the fruit doesn't seem to affect them at all, just discolors them. I also call it a Keller Rainbow mango because it turns every shade of the rainbow when ripe. Here is another photo of the fruit where you can see more color.

Wow, that is cool looking PT! Sweet and Tart is a great combo...and fiberless too????

Can't beat that. And I'll have to try one of those sapotes sometime. I've got a few friends in L.A. that grow them.....
