Hello
In March of 2008 I bought a Lisbon Lemon tree in a 24" box which I was told it was at least 7 years old. It has been planted in my back yard for 2 years now. When I bought it, it was full of fruit and foliage. Since it has been planted, most of the foliage has fallen off. The first year in the ground it gave around 4 lemons and this year it is loaded with small fruit. Since the lemon tree has been in the ground I have not seen new branches (growth) on the tree but it is flowering and producing a small number of fruit. Most of the old branches are turning yellow. Is the tree in a state of stock since there is no new branches since it has been in the ground? Why is there no new growth on this lemon tree? I am giving it citrus food 3-4 times a year per directions and I am following a water schedule for this area. [/img]
Help
Thanks John

Hi John,

First of all. I noticed the thumbnails created from your images were all kinds of weird colors, so I changed some settings in the system so your images look better now.

As for your tree. It appears to not be getting enough water to me. The leaves are very small which usually means a tree is reacting to drought. Make sure you check out the recommendations in this site for citrus watering. I noticed you have drip irrigation. Maybe the drip isn't soaking the tree enough. I water my tree once every two weeks this time of year and soak it thoroughly when I do. By thoroughly, I mean that I have the water on for at least 30 minutes and have a puddle a couple of inches deep on top of the soil by the time I finish.

Also, stop fertilizing the tree. Fertilizer can also make a tree look like it is suffering from drought because it raises the salinity of the soil to the point where the tree cannot get water pulled in through its roots. Don't fertilize your tree again until it has gotten bigger (maybe in a couple of years) and is growing well. Even then cut the amount of fertilizer you are putting down in half.

Good luck. Very Happy
