How did the seedling mango you have taste compare to the Manila ?

Was curious because they had a few fruits on em in June!

Was the seedling a big mango / stringy/ creamy?
I am curious, also how long did the seedling take to fruit as compared to the manila?

Thanks MATT !

That's funny you ask because I just had the first one from the seedling a couple of days ago and it tasted great! I think it must be Kent seedling because the mangoes really resemble a Kent, with the red shoulder and lima bean shape. The mango was totally non-fibrous. However, it was slightly green when we ate it because that one dropped a little early due to sunburn. It didn't hurt the flavor it just seemed to make it more firm than the ideal mango. That tree is 8 years old, and froze back almost all the way to the ground in the horrible freeze of 2007. I still have 2 mangoes to go on that tree.

The Manila mango only took 2 years to fruit, but that one is actually a seedling as well (a polyembryonic seedling). It also tasted really good. We had 4 mangoes from that tree this year.

My Keitt graft only took 2 years to fruit the first time. Flavor was excellent. The only thing bad about the Keitt is that it seems to be a slow grower.

Hey Matt now it's all good from here on out.
Your crop next year should be double the amount on both trees.

So happy the seedlings tasted good for you!
Maybe you can practice your grafting earyly spring next year and multibud on the Keitt seedling .

I have a small grafted Kent . Maybe i can get some budwood to you in spring next year. Let me know if interested. Also get some Budwood from Dr Al. from his Pina Mango we saw on the tour. Ask him about the taste before you do that though to see if it is worth it

Please continue to post every month the size didfference on your Tainung papayas, those things grow FAST Don't they. I love that about this variety

I will post mine Monthly also. Thanks for your input on gardening Matt it's appreciated. Mike !
