I just purhased a 4' tall Zutano Avocado tree from Lowes for $22. I have read some websites and it seems they will do ok with the weather, but, I wonder if I will ever eat the juicy fruit.
Is there a reason that I don't see these trees in the Phoenix area? _________________ Plant lover |

I tried a Zutano from Home Depot. It didn't make it. It just couldn't handle the saltiness of the soil here. Those Avocados are from California, and it seems to me that they don't grow them on a salt resistant rootstock (rootstock is the base plant onto which the select variety is grafted). I have a Winter Mexican Avocado I ordered from Florida and it is doing very well, so I recommend that variety to people. No fruit yet, but its doing well enough I think its just a matter of time. Check out the article in the website for more info. My Winter Mexican was ordered from www.toptropicals.com.
Good luck. |
