This Santa Rosa Plum tree is a little over a year old and already producing a small crop of plums. They are very sweet and delicious. Unfortunately, the birds like plums a lot so I have put a net over the tree.

looks good.

i heard some people tell me to hang a CD by the trees to scare them away, (i think the light may scare them not the actual CD), i have not try this but i may once i start to get fruit as well. The owl sure does not look like is is doing anything since the birds come to the yard, but there is no fruit on my trees yet.

Yes, CD's work. They don't totally stop the birds but they slow them down. The only thing that is a hassle about using CD's is that the string holding them breaks in a couple of weeks due to the string twisting in the wind. The twisting of the cord is an essential part of the scaring of the birds though, because it makes the reflections dance around.

you know, you just gave me an idea, i like fishing and i sometimes use a swivel for my rigs, this allows the line to rotate without twisting. This may be a good tool for this CDs, inexpensive and will save you the trouble of replacing the line.
