|
|
I had been told by a number of people that Capulin Cherry would not grow here in Phoenix. That the Arizona heat would be too much for it. I have found this to both be true and false. I had two pots of Capulin Cherry seedlings in spring of 2009.
I transplanted one of the Capulin Cherry seedlings into the ground, on a nicely drained mound on the NE side of my house about 6 feet north of a 6 foot wall, and about 12 feet from the house. In this location it receives afternoon shade and also some shade from the sun when its in the south, for example in August.
I left the other seedling in a pot and kept it in a very shady spot in the backyard.
The Capulin Cherry seedling in the ground made it through the summer of 2009 without much incident, other than looking a little scraggly by the end of summer. The seedling in the pot died.
This same seedling is making it through this summer in fine shape as well. Below is a picture of it.
