I'm not normally one to promote a particular business but the Mesa Home Depot at Val Vista and Broadway regularly supplies us with great quality subtropical fruit trees at amazing prices on a regular basis, so I think its worth mentioning.
They just got a a large shipment of mango, banana, and fig trees. I bought two mango trees last night for some friends for only 20 dollars each. There were a bunch of them left too. I'd say at least 20 trees of each type. They are Manila mangoes which are a good variety for around here. |

So in the case of those however, they pretty much have to be planted for the enjoyment of the plant, yes? I can't picture any of them ever fruiting here in the valley. |

I have a manila mango tree in my yard, that I planted 3 years ago, and it started producing last year (2 years from when it was planted). I ate 3 mangoes last year from it and had 4 of them this year. All of them were much better in flavor than anything you can get from the grocery. As it gets larger I expect to get a much larger crop. |
