Longans actually grow well here. They are easier to grow than lychee. I have a Kohala I purchased mail order from Florida. The first year I planted it in full sun, which was a bit much for it. I moved it to the east side of my house and its doing great. |

how cold hardy are longans?
my wife okayd the purchase of another mango tree, i think im going to either get the 7gal pickering from Top, or a 3gal pickering from plantogram.. but i will grow it in a large pot so I can move it around
it might be difficult during summer though, never grown anything potted here, will the pot cook the roots? |

Longan's are tougher than mangoes and guavas. They are good to 28°F or so.

It is best for your pot to have a light color so it doesn't absorb much heat from the sun. White ceramic is the best. |

Yes, ceramic is better than plastic, and dark green is too dark. Home depot used to sell large white ceramic pots, very nice ones, but I haven't seen them in a while. The beige colored Mexican style pots are good I think, and not expensive. |
