Longans actually grow well here. They are easier to grow than lychee. I have a Kohala I purchased mail order from Florida. The first year I planted it in full sun, which was a bit much for it. I moved it to the east side of my house and its doing great.

how cold hardy are longans?

my wife okayd the purchase of another mango tree, i think im going to either get the 7gal pickering from Top, or a 3gal pickering from plantogram.. but i will grow it in a large pot so I can move it around

it might be difficult during summer though, never grown anything potted here, will the pot cook the roots?

Longan's are tougher than mangoes and guavas. They are good to 28°F or so.

It is best for your pot to have a light color so it doesn't absorb much heat from the sun. White ceramic is the best.

I got a couple 24inch green plastic pots from home depo, should I return them and look for white color? And is plastic no good?

Yes, ceramic is better than plastic, and dark green is too dark. Home depot used to sell large white ceramic pots, very nice ones, but I haven't seen them in a while. The beige colored Mexican style pots are good I think, and not expensive.
