My neighbor has two apple trees, right next to each other. They are a Golden Dorsett and an Anna, which are the apple varieties recommended for this area and pollinators for each other. He was nice enough to share a bunch of his apples with us, which became ripe in the middle of June.
In the past I was not too impressed with apples grown here in Phoenix. I had eaten Anna Apples and found them bland and not crisp. However, I am actually impressed with the quality of his Golden Dorsetts. Still, some members of my family like the Annas better, so maybe it just comes down to a matter of taste. The Dorsett's are more crisp than the Anna's and more tart and juicy, whereas the Anna's might be a little sweeter but drier and more mushy.
The photo I am including is of two Golden Dorsett Apples.

I have both of these trees but have only gotten apples from the Dorsett. Of course my trees are young so I wasn't expecting much. It was a pleasant surprise. Although they were small, they were crisp and not too sweet. The Anna's don't sound very good. The horses may end up with those
