I found this website trying to find a way to get my lawn looking great. right now its completely dead (with the exception of a little bit on the side of the house where its blocked from the afternoon sun). All the tips on Bermuda & Rye Grass is very helpful, but i have a problem. I'm not sure if my lawn is currently rye or bermuda. obviously i would have to wait til October to starting tearing up the yard and seed with some Rye grass, but i dont know if i am overseeding bermuda because im not sure what my lawn is. Also, when summer starts next year, do i overseed with bermuda grass? i hope i explained this correctly enough for someone to give me advise. Let me mention also i am a novice when it comes to gardening and lawn care. Thank you! |

This time of year the ryegrass is dead. It does not go dormant. It just dies when it gets hot. So, if what you have is mostly dead it was ryegrass. You will need to plant the rye in October as you will have to do every year. In April or May you can either plant the bermuda from seed or have sod installed. The bermuda will go dormant in the winter and come back again each May.
Hope this helps. |

Try to get sod if you can. It's more expensive than seed, but you get the option for hybrid grasses that look really nice that you can't get from seed. Additionally, it's not as expensive as one might think. It also tends to look a lot nicer a lot faster.
BOB sod from Home Depot is a great option. |
