Do we need to choose shoter rootstock (length below scion point)? Some grafted trees have very long rootstock. are they ok to choose? |

Generally you want the graft point between the rootstock and scion to be about 6 inches above the ground. That way the scion will be high enough that it won't be exposed to dirt and water but you still won't have to trim growth off the rootstock very frequently. Taller rootstocks are more likely to grow branches which you will need to cut off. |
