Hello, I have a dwarf brazilian banana tree. It was in a one gallon pot and about eighteen inches tall. About a month ago I transplanted it into a larger pot. It has stopped growing and the leaves have turned crisp. It has a new leaf that will not come out. I live in southern AZ.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

My experience is that bananas aren't really that great as potted plants, because they outgrow pots really quickly. Unless you live somewhere even colder than Tucson, I would suggest putting the banana in the ground.

If you are to keep it in a pot for a while, it is better to have a white pot, so that the hot sun does not cook the plants roots. However, seeing as how you have already transplanted it, I wouldn't recommend transplanting it again for a while.

It sounds like you banana is getting cooked. I think you should move it to full shade until it recovers and things cool down a bit. Keep it well watered and it will most likely come back. Also, you probably shouldn't fertilize it until its vigorously growing again.

Hope this helps.
