Mango maturity before fruiting??

I made the painful decision today after consulting with a mentor to cut off all the flower buds on my Nam Doc Mai, Valencia Pride, Coriente, and Kent mangoes. They are all small (about 4 ft tall) and really need to be putting the energy into growth rather than fruit. I had been avoiding it for sometime, in denial about a truth that I knew I would have to face. I almost wept. lol

So my question is how many years established do you guys let these trees get before you let them fruit?

I think its a good idea to do that the first year, because the first year fruit almost never hold on the tree until maturity anyways. After that I would leave the flowers on.

my pickering and nam doc are flowering.. but they both suffered from that salt build up so most of the leaves have burnt edges.

would it be wise to prune the flowers off? or just let it ride?

Let it ride. The worst that can happen is the fruit drop. I don't think having fruit on there will make a difference between them living an dying. It will just slow down the growth, and those are potted mangoes so its not like they can grow all that much anyways.

and I would just like to say, that on another forum I frequent, they recommend actually letting the little mangos form and then cutting them off...."they" say if you cut off the flowers before they form mangos, they will simply reflower.....

Guess you'll find out....
