Make sure to keep the receipt and the plant tag in a safe place.

This one is still alive and kicking.

However, at the moment it looks rougher than in this photo. I made the mistake of fertilizing it with magnesium sulfate about a year and a half ago. It beat the heck out of it. It's on the mend though. It's been in the ground about 4 years now. I'll post a photo of it and a new Mexicola Grande that is next to it in a couple of minutes.

Winter Mexican Avocado. I mulch it a lot with my own homemade mulch. I don't use the store bought compost anymore because they have gypsum and manure in it. My homemade mulch is a mixture of leaves and grass clippings. I compost it some, at least until it turns brown before I put it around the tree.

No other fertilizers of any kind are used.

Looking really good so far. I think I planted this in January. It's even flowering.

In an earlier post, I suggested that you keep the receipt for your plants. I was being a bit sarcastic, but somewhat realistic, Mariolo.

Avocado is one of the hardest tropicals to grow in Phoenix. It has difficulties with our sun -- that's why most trees that survive here are grown in the shade of the canopies of larger trees. Furthermore, the Mexican varieties that can somewhat take our frosts have a great deal of difficulty taking our hard water. Even in the low likelihood that your plant even successfully fruits and doesn't fruit drop in May/June due to the hot weather, the quality is likely to be poor due to again, the Arizona heat.

There are several people that grow avocados successfully here, but many of those individuals are experienced gardeners. Others have successfully grown or propagated these plants in containers, but often resort to doing things like building shade structures for their orchards and watering only with reverse osmosis water.

Are there big trees here in Phoenix? Yeah, but the handful that exist are chance seedlings or trees that have been extensively babied by some of the best tropic fruit growers in town. There are reasons why there are people in the CRFG that are on a seemingly endless quest to find an Arizona avocado that will consistently grow (and fruit) here in the Valley.

Your trees look good now. Wait 'till summer hits.

Thanks for the info, actually my avocado was the first fruit tree I bought, I had thought that it was harder to group mangoes than avocados, then I started doing research, found this very nice and helpful site. I know I have alot to learn and I'm probably just a little seed that hasn't even germinated compare to u bigger trees here in the forum, like u told me I still have the recipt and I appreciate all the help I get from all of you guys
