This Year's Papaya Production . . .

Has this early heat affected anyone else's papaya production this year? My Mexican papaya here in Palm Springs started to produce a few in March/April, then completely stopped when the heat started to really hit in May. When I look up into the canopy I only see little dried up remnants of flowers, if anything at all....

Also, last year's papaya that over-wintered and started to ripen in april or so, just became so rubbery and tasteless this last 5-6 weeks. Again - was it caused by excessive heat, or is it just being on the tree so long???

My papaya tree is just happy to still be alive. No where near fruiting size yet, but still looking healthy. The hot May seems to have deterred a lot of my plants from fruiting. For example, my mango trees were so incredibly loaded with little fruits this year but the hot May resulted in lots of them being dropped. Next year, I will water more in May, especially if it gets hot early again like that.

PT - shall I start a new Topic and show pics of my mango trees that are fruiting this year? Everything's maturing early cuz of the heat - I'd say about 3 weeks early....
