Well, my Agave is dead due to weavils

Well, my Agave is dead.

The weevils got to it last summer and it has been struggling every since. Yesterday I gave it a push and it just fell over, its core completely hollowed out.

Previous years I had put diazinon around it every May and never had any problems. Diazinon is now banned so I bought some triazicide. It's supposed to be a substitute but does not seem to have worked.

I took a pup off my plant last year and it is doing well in a pot so I will plant that in the same spot in the fall. I also found some links that point to other control measures that might work for the future. They site these two chemicals:

Ouch, sorry about that. Yes, Imidacloprid is the weapon of choice. I'm now up to 100+ different Agave varieties and 150+ individual Agaves in the ground in my landscape, so you can bet weevils are a major concern. I treat preemptively in March, then again in May and (knock on wood) haven't lost one yet, though I see some evidence of weevils in my neighborhood. A weevil infested plant has a very distinctive look, not easily forgotten. Make sure you triple dose that hole before planting another Agave there, and vigorously treat any other Agaves on your property. No other plants are at risk.
