Do you mean ice cream bean tree the pulp is very sweet, somewhat fibrous, and melts in the mouth like cotton candy and taste like vanilla ice cream. Last summer I came across a tree in San Diego and ate some of the pulp. Planted some seeds for the club. There might be some plants at the spring plant sale. So far only growing them in pots.

I have one I got from dato - really small to start and its in partial shade with filtered Afternoon sun. Didn't do much first year, looked like hell after the cold snap, but is now pushing out dark green leaves.
I dug the hole normal like, back filled a bit with compost, coffee and native soil. I understand they don't love nitrogen fertz so I created my water well a few inches deeper than the surrounding soil and mulched the heck out of it with leaves that fall from near by trees. 3 inches or so? Seems to like it. I water bi weekly in summer on a long slow hose trickle.
Only a year old but its alive and well. |
