sadly the cold put an end to my two great passion fruit vines. We planted another one about a month ago but my hubby was wondering about the difference between the fredericks and Marapuya. We have had the experience with the fredericks (lots of fruit on year two, died third winter)

My Frederick came back from its roots a number of times after freezes. If you have the patience then a passion fruit will usually come back within a couple of months.

Maracuya is the Spanish word for passion fruit. Probably if you bought one that only said "Maracuya" on it you got a seedling rather than a select variety like Frederick.

When the first shipment of tropical fruit plants arrived at the box stored this year they had a “Marapuya” passion fruit and it had a fruit and the price was cheap. So when looking up what variety Marapuya was I also found out that it was just a “Passion Fruit”. Well the fruit is almost ripe and it is flowering like mad right now. Trying to hand pollinate hopefully it will set some more fruit and we’ll see if the fruit tastes good.
