I was wondering how you guys germinate jackfruit seeds. Whenever I do, they seem to always damp off.

I grew jackfruits from seed once. I just used regular potting soil, which was miracle grow moisture control and kept it moist but not soaking in a pot with drain holes. I think it was in the summer and I had almost every seed grow into a decent sized plant. Some of my plants died in the winter because jackfruit just to not like cool weather. They didn't get frozen but just got sickly and stopped growing with the cool weather. Only one of four of them made it through the winter and I gave it to a friend. It was a really vigorous healthy one. She kept it in a pot but then someone stole it from her porch... bummer.

That's too bad. Sometimes I think I'm trying too hard, because all the Arizonians that have done this say it isn't super hard, like Tropica Mango, Edible Tropicals and others. Do you cover them with plastic bags and on top pool of water and rocks for humidity? How often do you water?

I germinated them like any other seed, nothing special. Maybe they did well because I had the pots in the shade outside in the summer. The heat helped maybe?

I've had some success germinating jack fruit seeds using the wet paper towel in sealed plastic bag method. Once the seeds rooted, I placed them in 1 gallon pot with soil and then put the pot in a tied plastic bag to create a greenhouse effect. Most of the seeds grew into seedlings. Unfortunately once I transplated the seedlings either into bigger pots or directly into the ground, they failed to survive either the summer heat or the winter cold.
Has anyone here successfully grew jack fruit trees from seeds or from any other method?

I think the idea is too preserve the long taproot that jaks give out, so I think it would be best to put it directly in some moss or perlite. The thing that gets to them must be the cold, but there isn't much we can do about that, unless you got a greenhouse (in which you would never run into this problem anyway).

I'd love to get a greenhouse, but that's not an option now so I'll have to deal with the usual heat and frost. I just got some jack fruit seeds so will try to grow them again. Keeping my fingers crossed.

i had no problem germinating them.
they are a large seed, and have energy to grow the first few weeks
after that , they are used to growing fast
and need energy, so there needs to be organics in the soil
or, fertilizer (i like going natural though)
the taproot is an issue i think.
the ones i had in normal pots didnt do as well
as the one i put in a deep kitchen garbage can
they are more cold-hardy than i thought too.
i did loose 2 to a freeze
but 2 survived.
1 in a container, and 1 in the ground
although that one died back to a 6 inch stump
it came back in spring.

Are you sure you are maintaining humidity. A friend of mine used to grow them and she was constantly speaking of how the plant really really liked a well maintained humid environment. She has well above my experience with jackfruit, so there's this.
