I've always thought that worm castings were more potent than compost. Worm castings are easier to make than compost because all you have to do is get set up with red wriggler worms and you never have to turn any bins. They also aren't picky about N:C ratios and such. Certain bacteria live in the hot compost, while others live in the worms' digestive tract.

I've had trouble with my red wigglers surviving our heat...where do you keep yours, darkcoolboo?

Oh, I just reread your post - in the garage....

darkcoolboo, I agree vermicomposting is the bee's knees. I put a post up at TFF that I think would be right up your alley: http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=15110.0

starch, could you hook me up with some worms? Sometimes I go on craiglist or some other website, but I never have the motivation to actually ask for some. This is another case in which I have online info, but no hands on experience. I can pay a $5 shipping cost if you like. PM me on tropicalfruitforum or here.
