Orange trees like full sun. It is only when they have been trimmed up exposing the trunk or when the canopy is real thin that you need to paint the trunk or branches. I think its better not to give your tree shade. Just paint any branches and trunk that is sunburning with a 50% mixture of white latex paint and water. A little bit of sunburn on exterior branches is normal and ok. Its only when the sunburn gets so bad that it is hurting the trees growth that you have a problem. Its really a judgement call, but if in doubt paint the branch. Of course, do not paint the leaves.
You can remove the stake when the trunk of the tree is thick enough to withstand a windy day. If the tie seems too tight, you can just cut it and then tie it again with the green plastic tying tape. |
