Greetings,

First post here on the forum..

I have a number of fairly wild mesquite trees and I'm trying to figure out how to transform them from bushes to trees.

I watched a video on leaders and branches from a guy in Tucson so I think I've got that part figured out but... what my concern is now is at the bottom of some of the trees is a very bushy looking fairly new stand of green sprouts that are coming out of the ground.

How do I trim those back so they don't turn into a huge bush at the base of the tree?

Just keep them trimmed all the way to ground level and the tree will eventually give up on them.
