Very strange - I assume these ripen in the summertime, but I was poking around my 3 year old Surinam Cherry bush and the red of these berries hit my eye!
I'd never had any of the fruit before. They were still plump, though a couple a little dried, but tasted Deeeelish! What a great surprise!!!! I do like these odd/funny tasting guys now.....
Made my day...MDog

What a great surprise. I have 2 of these. One is the red type and one is the black type. Mine are only about a year old each so I guess I have a ways to wait to try them.
What is the flavor like? You say that you like the taste now so, I take it they may not be for everyone

Nice. I tried some once that someone brought to a AZRFG meeting and they were horrible. Tasted like gasoline smells ha ha. Probably they had just gone bad or something

Tried some in San Diego two years ago and they are very different tasting but sweet and good. Then I tried one that was not ripe and it was just like PT said tasted just like gasoline. Couldn’t spit it out quick enough. I got two tree/brushes growing also.

One of them is 1/3 the size of yours and the other one is more like a tree 2 foot tall. No fruit.
